A standard guest bath runs about two to three weeks. A full master suite typically takes three to five weeks. What pushes a job longer is usually not labor: slab work adds inspection steps, custom glass is templated after tile is set and then fabricated, and special-order vanities and tile can have real lead times. Yes, and it is the most common job we do. Those big corner tubs eat a third of the room and most families stopped using them years ago. Because the existing drain is typically close to where the new one needs to be, it is one of the better value conversions available. We will also tell you honestly when keeping a tub is the smarter call, for instance if it is the only bath in the house.
Waterproofing and ventilation, in that order. We use a proper membrane system over the backer board rather than relying on the board itself, seal every penetration, and install a fan sized for the room that vents outside rather than into the attic. Half the bathrooms we open in this metro have a fan dumping steam straight into the roof structure.
Because the slab underneath it is moving and the tile is bonded rigidly to it. Houston sits on clay that swells through a wet spring and pulls back in an August drought.
